Smart claims to be the first brand to allow a fashion designer to make changes to a vehicle’s body and, as you can see, Scott was liberal in his modifications. The most obvious change is the pink and white wings that fan out from the A-segment car’s taillights. Those wings are made of transparent fiberglass, and light up red to act as the brake lights. The feathers flank the rear hatch, and point rearward to give a sense of forward motion. Wings are a recurring theme for Scott, who uses them in everything from sneakers to sunglasses as a symbol of freedom or weightlessness. To repeat that airborne motif, the wheels incorporate an airplane propeller design element.
Inside, white Nappa leather is used to cover the seats, door panels, and instrument cluster. Smart says the goal of the partnership was not just to create a show car, but a near-series production vehicle with potential to license for road use in the future. At the vehicle’s unveiling, Smart chief Dr. Annette Winkler said, “We will also launch a limited special-edition of the Smart Forjeremy in 2013.”
